Yolanda is a big-for-her-age girl who is very intelligent and her brother Andrew  mentally challenged.  Yolanda, her mother, and Andrew move from a nice calm town to a place where middle schoolers sell drugs.  Andrew plays beautiful music on his harmonica.  Yolanda’s dad died when Andrew was very little.  Andrew’s harmonica is his only memory of his dad.  Yolanda looks up the word genius to find out if she is one but insted finds a quote discribing her brother.  Yolanda meets a girl who seems nice and they become friends. The girls name is Shirley and Yolanda meets her on the bus. Yolanda and Shirley are best friends because when Yolanda meets Shirley she instantly becomes friends because Shriley knows how Yolanda fells.  

   One day Yolanda forgets Andrew while she is  baking a cake with her friend.  While Yolanda is gone Andrew gets bullied and his harmonica is crushed.  Yolanda tries to buy Andrew a new harmonica, but Andrew doesn’t seem to play it the same as he used to.  Andrew used to play with soul used to play like he was the harmonica.  Yolanda’s aunt “Aunt Tiny” visits and askes them if they wanted to come back to their home town for the jazz festival.When Yolanda’s aunt visits, Yolanda acts up and says she’s not friends with a “white girl” to her friend.  Yolanda is acting up because Yolanda is going through a rough time with Andrew.  Yolanda dosent realy care about what color Shirley is Yolanda is just having a rough timein her family.  Yolanda says this because her family is very close withouYolanda goes to the festival and she takes her brother to say they are “lost”.  If you say you are lost at the concert you get to go backstage.  Yolanda wanted to go backstage because she thought if Andrew could meet a preformer he could be able to play in the concert and show everyone that he was a genuis.

When she says they are ”lost” they get to go backstage.  When they go backstage they meet some performers.  When they meet the performers Andrew plays music and they tell him to go up and play on stage.  When Andrew plays on stage people liked his music.  Yolanda and Andrew go back to their mother and Yolanda starts to say, “I have some explaining to do…”.  What yolanda needs to explain is why she acted up and all the lies she has kept from her parents.
